Earthbound

Earthbound is a  1995 (In The United States, 1994 in Japan) Ape and Hal Laboratory game for SNES.

While the first anti piracy measures are an anti piracy message and making the game harder, it's the last one that really does it: It freezes and doesn't save during the final battle. It also deletes all your data. Given that original carts go for over a hundred dollars, it's probably best to get it on virtual console.

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders is a 1988 game by LucasArts.

The copy protection on this one, may seem rather boring, as it's just a scolding for playing for playing an illegitimate copy of the game, but I assume at the time this was uncommon. Other games where you don't have the manual for aid (because of it being a copy) would just be render unbeatable. However this goes full out and punishes you more for playing an illegal copy. You're even in your own cell in a place dubbed "Pirate Jail"

Intro

Hello, and welcome to Anti Piracy Examples. Due to the amount of copying of software, music, movies and video games, companies have been trying hard to stop it. Some of the ways they've done so are actually really creative, so I thought I'd document some.

If you want to see more anti piracy things, I'd recommend these videos from Oddity Archive:
